One of the problems of this generation is not the lack of money or money making opportunities, it is rather the abundance of it.
What we are burdened with, as people who want to make the most of our lives, is which of these opportunities to subscribe to.
Several years ago, there lived a man who was faced with very difficult life situations. He spent so many years in apprenticeship for a profession that he really wanted to build his life's success on.
It wasn't as it he wasn't getting a headway, what you'd term as luck wasn't really on his side. Although he worked hard and creatively, he couldn't just move on.
After so many years of service to this master, he was betrayed so he had to serve another term of apprenticeship. Instead of lamenting, he doubled his determination and continued. I really admire his humility and patience.
Whiles serving his master for the second term, his breakthrough moment came one afternoon like a bride meeting her groom at the altar. He got an idea to create something different that will make him prosperous.
He did not waste time to implement this as it sparked some uncommon enthusiasm which reflected in his new approach towards work.
He started immediately and within a short time, he became richer than his master. Out of envy, the master had to chase him away.
While on his journey, he decided to settle at a distant place where he established himself with what he had gotten from his trade.
As a visionary and determined person, it did not take him a long time to conquer that new community as he began to make some strategic investments on that new land.
One of such investments is still yielding dividends today. I was not surprised at all to discover that.
After so many centuries, as recorded in the greatest book of all time, one if his inheritances was passed down to his son. As that son also prospered by his own labour, he left the inheritance to the community.
Several years after the death of his son, the people in the community were still benefiting from his investment. On a faithful day, a renowned personality came by the place and asked to take over that property and use it to serve the entire world.
If you care to know what the Investment was, it was a well. Yes! A well of water which was dug by the Biblical Jacob whose name was later changed to Israel. His son who inherited the well was Joseph and the renowned person who came by the property (well) was Jesus, the Christ.
This story was drawn from the book of John 4: 5-11.
Jacob could have resorted to any kind of investment but he chose to stay humble, embrace the idea God had given him and dug wells to feed his animals. Years later, a whole community was still benefiting from his vision.
That's how we are supposed to live. It is either we dig deep and find solutions that will out live us or we wait for the rain to fall. A lot of young people are waiting for the rain but they don't have the tank to preserve the rain water.
They are waiting for good jobs with great pay packages but won't take the pain to invest in skill acquisition. The rule of life's game is faith and patience.
Jacob exercised faith and patience that's why his breakthrough met him at his post. Some people will rather die than learn from anybody. They think they can do it until they hit the rock.
There may be quick schemes than can make you millions in a day but know that when you dig deep, you are digging not only for yourself but for others. That's a noble thing to do. Isn't it?
It may take years to yield but know that buildings with deeper foundations have the greatest heights.
Keep Digging!
